Visual classification of larval instars and developmental age in forensic Chironomidae

Overview

This study develops a computer vision–based classification system to identify larval instars and estimate developmental age in forensically relevant Chironomidae. Digital images of larvae will be acquired and annotated according to instar stage and chronological age. Morphological features extracted from the images will be used to construct a computational model for automated instar classification and age estimation. The expected outcome is a reproducible tool to support developmental analysis in forensic investigations.
